Living expenses can be estimated between CHF 18,000 and 28,000 per year (depending on the location of the university and personal needs).
The Swiss Government grants university scholarships to foreign students who have graduated from university.
The scholarships are offered initially to foreign governments. The applications must be submitted for preliminary selection to the national institution in charge and the Swiss diplomatic representation in the student's country of origin. The Swiss diplomatic representation then forwards the pre-selected applications to the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) for definitive selection. Finally, the Federal Department of Home Affairs awards scholarships basing on the advice of the FCS.
As part of a special allocation, the Swiss Government provides a number of additional scholarships to postgraduates from Central and Eastern European countries (using a pool system, with no fixed number of scholarships for each country).

The mobility centres of the Swiss universities provide information on scholarships granted by Swiss universities for international students.
A number of foundations offer endowments for students of all levels.
